The Passuk in this week’s Parsha tells us that when Hashem was about to destroy Sedom and Amorah, Hashem said, “Shall I hide what I am about to do from Avraham?” (Bereishis 18:17) The problem with this question is that, in general, Hashem does not reveal His plans to mankind – no matter who it is. Hashem says that, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are My ways your ways.” (Isaiah 55:8) Accordingly, Hashem is not want to run his plans by a human being.  That being the case, why does Hashem feel the need to consult with Avraham?...

QUESTION: In an attempt to “reach” the client and improve his behavior, is a marriage therapist that encounters a client who is a not a good spouse, allowed to lie to the client and tell him that he is indeed, a good spouse and should avoid behaviors and actions that are unbecoming of him? This is the common method of setting a high standard for someone to bolster their confidence and then comparing their actions to the standard that they have set (i.e. “You’re too good of a person to be acting this way”)...

QUESTION: An acquaintance of mine, who used to work with me in the office, moved to another location to take a different job and I had not spoken to him for a while. I needed to ask him something, so I gave him a call. Since I had not spoken with him for a while, I asked him how he was doing with genuine curiosity and concern. Apparently, my acquaintance misinterpreted the tone of my tone and thought that I was aware of his rather serious medical situation and proceeded to thank me for my care and concern in asking how he was doing. I felt awkward and played along with his erroneous assumption...
