Parsha In this week’s Parsha, Ephron tells Avraham Avinu, “…I have given you the field, and the cave that is in it… Before the eyes of my people, I have given it to you; bury your dead.” (Bereishis 23:11)

The words “Before the eyes of my people” are rather perplexing. What message is Ephron trying to convey with these words? We may also ask another question. Five Passukim later, when Avrohom weighs out the talents of silver to Ephron the Passuk spells Ephron’s name without a “vov”. Why is his name spelled deficiently?...

Parsha In this week’s parsha, one of the Malachim (angels) that visited Avrohom Avinu informs him that Sara Imeinu was going to have a son despite her advanced age. Sara overheard this prophesy and did not believe it. The Possuk says, “Now Avrohom and Sara were old, coming on in years; Sara had ceased to have the way of the women. Sarah laughed within herself, saying, ‘After I have become worn out, will I have smooth flesh…’” (Bereishis 18:11-12)

How could Sara, who was on an even greater level than Avrohom in regards to prophesy, deny the truth of the prophecy?...

Parsha In this week’s Parsha, Hashem told Avrohom Avinu to, “Go forth from your land – your birthplace – and the house of your father – to the land that I will show you” (Bereshis 12:1). We see from this Possuk that Hashem felt it necessary to tell Avrohom to depart from each of these three places. Would not it have been sufficient to just say, “Go forth from your land”?
