Halacha – Jewish Law Question: A homeowner (Reuvain) and a laborer (Shimon) agreed to perform services at $100 per hour. Subsequently, Shimon reneged on the deal and did not want to perform the services he contracted for. Assuming Reuvain cannot find others to perform the services and Reuvain will incur a loss if the services are not performed promptly (Davar Ha’Avud), is it permissible for Reuvain to promise Shimon $200 per hour, and after the job is completed to pay him $100 per hour, which was the amount of money agreed to initially?...
