Halacha – Jewish Law In Parshas Lech Lecha, Hashem says to Avraham that He will make his children like the “dust of the earth” and the “stars of the sky”. The Radak says that references to “dust” and “stars” are clearly exaggerations. The Sha’arei Teshuva says that the tendency to exaggerate is a bad trait, which can lead one to lie on a regular basis. How do we explain that Hashem used exaggerated terms to describe Avraham’s children?
